How to Host a Successful Summer Party

Summer is here and we all want to do something fun before it’s over. We spend our winter months indoors and now it’s time to plan for a fun outdoor event. To have a great experience, it is always to plan ahead of time. Keep in mind that organization is key.

The party is at your home, right? Don’t stress. Here are a few tips to make this event the best ever!

  1. Invitations. Forget about refiring the grill for the latecomers! Hello! Do you want to stay at the grill all day? I hope not. Make sure you include a specific time in the invitation where food will be served. This will allow you and your guests time to enjoy their food and chit-chat. Isn’t this a genius idea?
  2. Plan for rainy days. You have over 30 people coming and the weather decided not to cooperate. Are you canceling your plans? Heck no! Make sure you tell your awesome guests that rain or shine, the party is on!
  3. Not enough seating? No worries. Gather a few blankets and lay them on the ground and have them seat picnic style. There is a solution to everything. Who doesn’t love a picnic?
  4. Worry about decorations? Don’t be. I think this is the easiest and affordable way to decorate your summer party. Think…Piñata! Yes. You can buy a big fun piñata and fill it up dollar store items. Include items like goggles, floaties, sunglasses, lottery tickets and if it’s a pool party, mini spray guns. This will be great when taking pictures.
  5. Keep mosquitos away. Part of the decoration can be a nice vase in the middle of the table with fresh lemongrass. Mosquitos don’t like the smell of lemongrass so they will keep away. Way to go lemongrass!
  6. And the beat goes on. Plan your playlist. Don’t crank the speakers. Make sure it is set to low volume. If you are using a radio, make sure it is at ear level so that your guest doesn’t have the music blasting on their ears.
  7. Plan for at least 4 hours. Maximum hours to make a successful party will be at five hours. A lot of guests don’t stay longer than that.
  8. Plan for a simple menu. Don’t do any heavy cooking. In the summer, people like to eat light. Plan dishes that can be served cold like easy appetizers (fruits and veggies), pasta salad, bread, and cheese, green salads, pickles, chips, Mexican dishes. If you want to grill, go ahead! Hot dogs and hamburgers are a popular thing. You have the option of everyone keeping an eye on their own burger. But, that is up to you.
  9. Who wants to drink what? Make your party a BYOB (bring your own bottle) if adults want to enjoy an alcoholic beverage. We all can enjoy this as long as they drink responsibly. If you want to provide something to drink, why not make infused water? Get a pretty drink dispenser and add fresh herbs like mint, lemon and/or fresh fruits. You can also include soda in addition to the infused water.
  10. Set up a budget. Believe me, you don’t want to overspend. Grab a notebook and a pen and write down what your budget is. This should include food, decorations, beverages, and appetizers. Don’t make a hole in your pocket when it’s not necessary. You want to have fun, not worry about the money you spent was to pay a bill. Keep it simple and let the fun begin.
