Although I have been in many direct sales, I can honestly say that I have a good balance of success and failures. One thing for sure, I do not let failure determine my future. Sometimes we get all bummed because we haven’t seen progress or are not making any money, but truly, when you are in direct sales you have the responsibility of making things happen. Your sponsor is there to guide you and brainstorm ideas with you, but it is not your sponsor responsibility of why you are not making money. It is yours only!
If you are not seeing any results, what is it that you are not doing? I have learned many years ago not to complain about it, but to pray about it. We all have reasons to try a different business until we find the one that is giving us results, but I believe that any business works and gives you profit, but your calling may not be in the business you have chose. In my experience in direct sales, I have been in over 35+ direct sales companies and I can say that probably 5-6 of those have given me the results I wanted and I have learned so much from them.
We’ve all have been there, right? Here are some tips to help you have a profitable event.
A positive mindset is everything. We all need money and it comes over time and it with trial and error. If something doesn’t work, don’t despair. Always have a mindset of trying again. Nobody wants to be around people that are constantly complaining about business not been profitable. Remember, you make the business happen.
Use what you have. You don’t have to have a huge inventory. I’ve been in situation where I didn’t sell a thing. This weekend I was able to have my Scentsy table set up at a Summer Kick Off Party for a Mental Health clinic. The event was for the employees of that clinic and my business was profitable that day.
Have fun with everyone you meet. If you don’t build relationships with people, they are not going to trust you enough to make a purchase from you. Don’t be too focused on making money. When you focus on them, their confidence level will rise and they eventually make business with you and tell their friends.
Share some savings with those you make contact with. People love good deals. At the Summer Kick-Off Party, my best-sellers were the Scentsy Scent Circles and the Scentsy bars. Guests were buying, having conversations, eating and after all that, the got up again and shop with me.
Prepare Mystery Bags. No matter which company you’re in, have some Mystery Bags available for new customers as well as your regular customers. The Mystery Bags that I make are valued at $10 which includes Scentsy full-size products and additional free goodies you can add to your bags.
Children attract parents to the table. Have something for them that catches their attention and they will signal to their parents to go to your table. Children are your best customers. At the Summer Kick-Off Party they had a beach ball piñata for the children. You can do something similar to that.
Being a part of a direct selling company means that you may have to invest more than you make. Think about owning your own mom-and-pop store, you have to invest in order to make money. Direct selling is no different. You will need items to run your store and that means investing in order to make.
Host a raffle at your table. Make a gift basket to giveaway to a winner. Don’t giveaway a gift-basket to just anybody. You need something in return such as an email address, have them follow you on social media, grab their phone number or even book a party.
Invite your own friends to the event. Have them invite their own friends. For instance, you can host a Guest with the Mostess and do a raffle this way. Always think the more the merrier.
Relax and enjoy the event. I had so much fun and met some crazy, fun and good spirited people at the Summer Kick-Off Party. We laughed and talked and got to know each other. You can do the same. When you show off your wonderful attitude, they may want to purchase from you more often like they are doing with me. It’s all about personality and think about them first.
Every event is different. In some cases, you may not sell anything. Take courage and email places where they need vendors or you can do something special for them. Social media can be a great place, but do you know how many people don’t have social media? At the event I was in, half of the guests do not use social media. I was glad to be able to reach to them and these are the young generation. The other half are on Facebook and Instagram so we are connecting via those mediums. It is know how to work your business like a business.
Here’s one secret: I did not sell any of my warmers. Am I upset? No. When you go shopping at Walmart you get what you want and need. Do you have workers on you telling you what you should get? I don’t think so. Have products that are affordable to them and yes, get some upscale items as well. But think about people that are on a budget. This is easy money to make.
Another secret: When you join a direct selling company, do not join because you may like the products. Ask this question: What do my customers may like? You are in business to draw business to you, not because you like all of it. If you think about the customer and think about what they need and fill those needs, I know for sure you will have a successful business. What’s your ideal customer?

As a multitasker, I used to plan for parties and tried to do everything myself. I wanted to take over and have everyone talk about what a great party I held. The problem was that many of the guests I invited did not show up. What a bummer!
In previous years, I wanted to cook a big meal and my main goal was to impressed those who showed up, but guess what? I burned out! In my experience, this is not the way to go. Especially, if you are hosting a direct sales party. These kind of parties are totally different than having a birthday party. The attention is on the product and the hostess, but certain things need to happen in order to have a success with it.
The center of attention of your home party is not the casserole, it is first, in how well you coached your hostess. This is a bit difficult if you are hosting a distanced party or even an online party because after coaching your hostess you see nothing happening and your hostess does not return your emails, texts or phone calls. The lack of motivation exists around them maybe they have done so many parties with the same people for different companies that they maxed our their family and friend list. If this is the case, why not ask them if their friends want to host a party for you? If she agrees and you booked parties due to her recommendations, offer her a free gift for her referrals.
Over the years, I have experienced that having a theme for a direct sales party works fantastic. You can do the same thing for online or catalog parties to make it a bit fun and not just hand her a boring ol’ catalog. Bring your fun self and add that to your parties. Also, be by her side (literally) and help her fill out her friends list and teach her how to contact her guests. Give her a script she can use that sounds fun and inviting. This should be part of the hostess coaching. Ask her about her goals and what she wants to achieve at her party. There’s got to be a reason why she decided to host a party. Many people do so because they want to meet new people or they simply just don’t go out anymore probably because they don’t have the means to do so and they found a home party to be the way to go.
Your setting should be simple and inviting. Play games and if the guests don’t know each other, break the ice by playing a game where they can connect and build relationships. This is the main reason you want to host a party. Yes, you need to sell products and yes, you need to reach a level, but if you focus on your guests, they will shop with you. They need to get to know you and know who they are shopping with. When everyone is having fun the energy is so high the sales will come. There will be a time where you will talk about your products and show case them, but first, you need to take care of your guests.
Pinterest is my go-to place to find fun games to play at home and online parties. You can find articles that share additional tips on how to do hostess coaching, excellent customer service, how to upsell so you can reach your goal faster, fun games that you can play that your guests will love and even games where you can book parties from your parties. There is so much information available to us, we just need to have the courage to search for that information so that we become professionals in our industry and others see you as the person that knows what she/he is doing.
The key to hosting a party and not a feast is to have everyone sit down and have good laughs always keeping in mind that you have a goal to meet. If everyone is having a good time, you have mastered your party skills. Then move on to your next goals which are making a sale and book more parties. Shall we?

One of the reasons after planning for a party and already invited guests is the thought of money. Reality is hitting hard on how much you have to spend, wishing not a lot of people will show up and maybe asking yourself why did I get into this mess? Right? In my previous post here, I share ideas on how to host a successful party. This will help you to keep it on budget without stressing out.
Another reason is the thought of cooking so much and cleaning up. Believe it or not, it is very important to set eating times and clean up times, why? You don’t want to spend all night cleaning and dreading it. Have them help you clean up! Friend, the entire responsibility doesn’t have to fall on you. You planned for the party, you spend the money to have a decent get-together, all they have to do is throw it in the trash. Make sure to keep trash bags in every corner so they get the idea of keeping it clean. One term I learned while working int he food industry is “mise-en-place,” everything in its place and in all honesty, I practice this at home and it is so much easier to keep everything clean and organized.
Now, this third reason is all about you. Think about the main reason why you decided on hosting a party in the first place? What motivated you to do so? After being excited about this, think about what you’re thinking about. What is making you decide the opposite? Why are you wishing for the opposite to happen? Put yourself in the position of your guests, what would they say if they find out what you’re thinking about? How would they feel? What would they say about you as a person? In fact, put yourself in their shoes? It speaks volume about who you are. My tip of this last reason is to check your heart. Do a deep discovery of who you are, what your purpose in this life is and wht makes you be the person you are today.
When planning for an event, a person have to have a heart of a servant. Thinking of doing special for someone for no reason is a valuable thing to do and many people express their gratitude by hosting a party. Who know, maybe some wants you to plan their party and that’s even more exciting.
Make your event a memorable one and disregard those negative feelings that is surrounding your and entering your thinking. Keep it cool. Sparkle every chance you get. Eliminate trash talk. Have a fresh persepective and ask friends for suggestions.
If you are feeling the pressure of hosting a fun event this summer, don’t worry. After all have passed, you will realize it wasn’t that bad.

We all know that going to the movie theater to watch a new release can cost an arm and a leg. No matter how much candy you can squeeze in for free (we all do that, right lol), it still going to coat us a lot of money.
I’ve been watching YouTube a lot lately just to spark my creativity but I have come across quite a few good movies (some of them are oldies but goodies), but they are worth watching at the comfort of your own home. Today, I noticed a movie that I haven’t watched and that’s my ticket to enjoy a free movie thanks to YouTube.
Do you know how much money I’m saving by watching these movies? Thank you YouTube for making my weekends enjoyable. So why not turn these free movies into a movie night with friends? Here are a few ideas to make your movie night interesting:
1. Wear cool pajamas.
2. Have your friends bring a snack.
3. Make a list of recommended movies to watch on YouTube.
4. Get a small utility shower caddy from the dollar store and prepare one for each of your guests. You can add additional snacks in the caddy amd they will love you forever. Add treats like popcorn, chocolate candy, pretzels akd, of course, don’t forget a yummy beverage!
We all know there is Netflix and Hulu to choose great movies from, but don’t limit your options. Use your free resources to make your fun movie night a night to remember.
